new month, new thoughts, new goals.

Have you ever had a moment where you learned something new and important about yourself that you didn’t even know existed (or mattered) in the first place?

Well, that was me yesterday.  Only instead of having one such moment, I had dozens, all pouring in at once.  I think it has something to do with the new month of August.

And so, I came to the conclusion that…

1. August isn’t going to be a major “running month.”

I thought about this a lot through July, as I realized that my long runs were growing shorter and shorter, perhaps unintentionally.  Not because I didn’t want to run.  I just didn’t want to train or run far.  My body wanted a break.  August is a good time to delve deeper into yoga and biking and kayaking and hiking!  With the occasional long run too—but only if I feel like it!

2. I need to get organized.

My working/blogging spot is not exactly brimming with creative energy and colors and excitement right now.  Time to get organized and create a spot where I want to be.  Especially since I spend a large part of my day here, working!  Eeps!

3. I want coffee.

Much like a yo-yo, I’ve had my ups and downs with coffee.  I’ve sworn it out of my life for at least two times now in the past year.  Why?  I hate being addicted to anything.  But I’ve come to the final and resting conclusion that coffee is like chocolate.  Life doesn’t make sense without it.

Hello, coffee.

4. I need “Me Time” every. single. night.

Work has been going well.  It’s all the icky technology stuff that’s been really bogging me down.  Stolen passwords and identities, computer glitches, learning new software programs.  I need time to put this all behind me and forget it all.  No computers, no deadlines, no calls, no requirements, no responsibilities.  Time just for ME.

5. Early mornings are my favorite part of the day.

Of course, I’ve known this for a long, long time.  But sometimes it’s nice to have the reminder.

The reminder to fully embrace the morning and to fully enjoy its quiet perfection.

Because sometimes life gets too busy and it’s easy to forget about the simple moments.  The moments that make life so delicious.

Oats In A Jar: “Frozen Banana Bliss”

I can’t think of a better way to finish off your almost-empty peanut butter jar.  Feel free to mix different fruit and spices into the mix!

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats, uncooked
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • cinnamon
  • 1 banana, frozen and chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. crushed flax seed
  • 1 almost empty peanut butter jar
  • toppings: granola, cherries, raisins, cranberries, etc.
  1. Combine oats, yogurt, cinnamon, banana, and flax seed.  Stir well.  Pour into peanut butter jar and top with your favorite garnish, such as granola.  ENJOY!

QUESTION: Do you make new goals for new months?

  1. I’ve actually never thought to make new goals for new months but it is a good idea! Unfortunately for me, my goal in August is to survive, haha. With the TX heat, plus the start of the fall semester, life gets pretty insane. I really do have to make it a point to stop and smell the roses, take time for myself and still enjoy life.

  2. #4 is sooo important. Even if it is just 1/2 an hour…we all need a little time each day to ourselves to recharge!

I see so many people making goals but I never sit down and create my own. They’re in my head, yes! But I need to put them on paper so I can hold myself accountable. Your goals are much like what mine would be (minus the coffee…I’d rather drink chocolate soy milk!)! “Me” time is essential, are quite mornings to prepare for the day ahead.

I’m going to write down my goals now.

  4. This is a great list of goals and I really agree with your fourth one! I need to work on that too

Can’t wait to see your new space once you get organized:)
I have a few goals in mind for August, mostly in relation to my fitness routine. I also want to read a few books before classes start again!

I’ve been wanting to make goals for each new month, but August kind of crept up on me… Lol. Maybe next month!
