Canada: Day 1

Well.  I fell in love.

With Fredericton, New Brunswick.

This was Day 1 of our Canadian travels.  Eight hours of driving left us tuckered out and hungry and—maybe—slightly grumpy.  We needed to walk, explore, and EAT.  So we stayed overnight at a nearby motel and walked our way through Fredericton.

There was a long, long bridge that went over the river from our motel to downtown.

Walking + sunshine + foodie discussions = happy travelers.

This is one of the many reasons why I loved this city.

It was green, biker friendly, easy to walk through and aesthetically very pleasing.  And every restaurant seemed to have a nice selection of healthy vegetarian/vegan friendly options as well as nice selections of healthy meat dishes too!

We settled on this restaurant: Isaac’s Way.

From burgers and steaks and fish.

To veggies and tofu and curry.

The options made everyone happy.

What made me happy was that we were able to eat outside, while enjoying the cool weather, sparkly lights and the fun artwork along the outdoor patio.  A pleasant atmosphere is everything!

The restaurant served local beer, which honestly kind of frightened me.

I’ve noticed a trend in good beer/fair food, with most restaurants that specialize in their beer.  I know this is a jump—an unforgiving first impression—but it’s something that I’ve been noticing time and time again.

But, thankfully, Isaac’s Way proved me wrong.  I loved the local beer and I loved my Lentil Bulgur Salad which was loaded with walnuts and roasted red peppers and feta.  And, my favorite, plenty of salty kalamata olives.

Delicious!  And just what my body was craving after driving all day.

Matthew and I stayed out a bit later in the city to explore, while everyone else walked back to the motel.

The city was so quaint and fun that I found myself wishing I had dressed more accordingly (i.e., cute sundress instead of floppy, travel-appropriate running gear!)  Ah well.  I stole Matthew’s sunglasses to try and help myself out a little…ha!

I had such a blast in Fredericton.  There was so much to see.  So much to DO!

I already plan on returning someday soon.

Goodnight, Fredericton.

Until next time.

QUESTION: Do you enjoy exploring new cities?

I’m the same way–I’ve pretty much accepted that I’ll start out in a clinical setting, but eventually I’d like to have time to be a health writer/write a cookbook:)
