two cats and a game of hide and seek.

In a strange, familiar sort of way, today felt a little like vacation.

I’m babysitting Nicole’s cats while she’s away, and she left me with a ton of fruit, La Croix carbonated beverages, almonds, granola bars and other such goodies.

Oh.  Yes.  And two fur-babies.

Stitch and Highstreet were adopted three years ago as kittens.  Highstreet, the black one, got his name from the street where he was left, abandoned, with his brothers and sisters.  He was one snotty nosed, very sick kitty when Nicole took him in.  So was Stitch.  Both were scared and timid (especially Highstreet!)  Now they’re goof balls who will do anything for some love.

Or a game of hide and go seek, for that matter.

Stitch thought it would be fun to hide behind the grill.

We played for a good while until Stitch decided to break the rules by jumping up on the railing of the deck.  He knows this gives me a heart attack, but seemed quite pleased with himself nonetheless.

Once I placed him back down, he decided it would be fun to lean off the edge of the deck.  Again, giving me a heart attack.

So we came inside, where Stitch decided to play on top of the refrigerator, overseeing the activities of the house.

(Meanwhile, Highstreet was much too busy eating ants to take part in any silly games.)

Yes.  It certainly felt like vacation.  Walking around the house barefoot, playing with a couple of cats, not a care in the world.

But in all honesty, work had to get done!  I have an exam to study for.  Jobs to find!

Salads to eat!

  • spinach and romaine
  • garbanzo beans
  • feta cheese
  • olive oil
  • carrots and tomato
  • almonds

I figured with all the peace and quiet of having the house to myself, I’d get a lot done.

But then, Highstreet had other plans.

Stomping on the paper, nudging my head, drinking my water, and throwing my index cards off of the table.

Highstreet?

It’s a good thing I love you.  It’s a good thing you’re cute.

QUESTION: Are you an “animal person?”  What is your favorite?

  1. I’d have to say I’m not an animal person but I married one 🙂 Before my husband and I moved into our first house in October, we were living in an apartment complex. One day, we started feeding two stray cats. One of those cats had a kitten, which we ended up feeding too, and taking her with us when we moved. Now I’m a cat person 🙂

Aww Nicole’s cats are so precious!!! I’m definitely an “animal person”, & I have to say my favorite is cats. I have 2 fur babies, Rachel and Mason, and they’re so incredibly sweet. After a difficult day at school, I can come home and they’re ready to snuggle and love me no matter what. ❤ Btw what do the La Croix beverages taste like? I want to try them, but I'm not sure which flavor. 🙂

    • They taste just like sparkling water with a hint of flavoring. They’re not at all sweet (no sweeteners of any kind!), but I find them incredibly addicting. And they’re very refreshing on a hot day.

I love the grapefruit flavor, but it’s come to my attention that there is a *coconut* flavor out there! I’m trying that one next. 😀

Haha, totally been there! Do you have any idea how difficult it is to study for organic chemistry when you have a 6 week old puppy on your hands?!

  4. My cat is the same way…always has to be into whatever I’m doing! Makes it worse that I’m allergic to cats, and he drools. All over. Gotta love them though, all they want to do is cuddle!

    Hahaha…They are so adorable!
I am definitely a Dog person. I have the naughtiest dog, Bazooka. He is a Pekinese with lots (and I do mean lots!) of hair. The pocket dynamo likes to go sit on top of my Dad’s office files whenever he wants to work. You have to bribe him with food or toys to get him to move. Much like an Indian bureaucrat!!! 🙂
Animals are just so beautiful and good to have in your life. Just one look at Bazooka and I always end up with a smile on my face. 🙂

HA,ha. LOVED this post!!! Highstreet always does that to me when I’m writing my grocery list. He has this need to lie on whatever paper you’re trying to look at. And Stitch does love his hide-and-seek! Thanks for taking SUCH good care of our fur-babies! 🙂

  7. Aww…your sister’s cats are adorable!! I love all animals…but am definitely a cat person. We have two and are babysitting a third right now!

  8. SO ADORABLE!!!

I’ve definitely started to become more of a cat person after living with the cutest (although temperamental) house cat this past winter. They are just so hilarious to watch! Our guy would curl up on the tiniest shelf by my computer desk and I’d never be able to get work done. Too funny.

Aw, Stitch and Highstreet are such perfect names! They’re so cute 🙂

Also? That salad looks SO good! I want to be eating it right now!
